AWARD: DENIED: 0358 Revised 8-8-96 Grievant was removed for unauthorized absences over a 4 day period. Grievant was absent to help his grandfather plant crops in order to meet a Federal deadline for farm income support payments. Prior to the incident, Grievant was disciplined on 4 other occasions, each time with a written reprimand. The Union contended that the grievant has a proper medical cause to being absent; moreover, the evidence against him was gathered by a bargaining unit member, which should be improper, and further, the discipline was not progressive. Held, that the union's contentions were not well taken. Grievance denied.
