Grievance was denied. Grievant was a 16 year employee with ODOT who left work without securing theì permission of a supervisor. Although he told the foreman of his work crewì that he was sick, the foreman is not authorized to approve leave. He wasì instructed to complete a leave form and to get permission. He completed theì form, but left it on the desk for the supervisor, who was on the phone, andì left. There was another supervisor in the room. Grievant did not secureì approval from that person. Given his length of service, his awareness ofì policies and procedures, and his previous disciplinary record, the 10 dayì suspension was commensurate.
