MODIFIED. Grievants alleged that certain teachers were deprived of contractually mandated planning time in violtion of contract Section 23.04. The teachers were vocational electronics teachers who protested the requirement that they inspect incoming electronic items for inmates to find contraband. Such a practice had occurred for a number of years; grievants argued that the contract required that it be stopped. The arbitrator granted the grievance to the extent that the consecutive 45 minutes planning period was not provided, but denied it as to the searches being outside the proper scope of the teachers' employment.
